This spice route tour is truly an eye opener for those hungry foodies and a culinary adventure for those who wish to spice up their cooking! As a cookbook author, international culinary instructor, and as a leading tour guide of gastronomic trips to local Spice Markets near Seattle, WA and throughout Southeast Asia, I am regularly queried how and where to find real spices. Jewels of spices - whole cinnamon, fragrant star anise, cardamom, coriander seeds, peppercorns, cumin, saffron, pure turmeric & chili powder, garam masala, fennel seeds, nigella, tukmaria … far-fetched, much to learn and awaiting to whisper their essence to you.

How do you use spice and where to find the best? How to select the most aromatic spice amongst many brands? How to store them? You will also discover a variety of lentils, beans and rice from the Mountains of Himalaya, chutneys & pickles, curry leaves and more. Let me guide you on my signature quality spice journey that is exciting and intriguing!

Sights & Scents: Demystifying Southeast Asian Markets
As a cookbook author, international culinary instructor, and gastronomic tour-guide locally and throughout Southeast Asia - I believe the most deeply selfless thing we can do is to share food, and through food we make a connection. I am regularly queried about the perplexing ingredients in a Southeast Asian market. Yes, the aisles are stacked with a variety of rice noodles; tamarind; coconut cream & milk; a range of sauces: soy, oyster, fish and kicap manis; curry paste; candlenuts; smooth palm sugar and aromatics. But, there is something special about these ingredients that create flavor ‘like a hug’! - Christina

Reviews & Testimonials
"Christina your spice market tour was an eye opener! I urge everyone interested in learning about the cuisines of Southeast Asia, as taught by Christina, to attend. I learned where to buy the sauces, curry paste, spices, aromatics required for this wonderful cuisine. Christina taught me how to select spices in their pure form, so different from the 'spice dust' sold for outrageous prices at mainstream stores. Some sauces have labels that have little or no English, and the staff may not have the time or the ability to understand what you're trying to find. This is when Christina's tour was so helpful. After a journey through these aisles with her (bring a notepad!) you will be able to fly solo next time.  A great time is guaranteed. I plan to go again." - Lawrence A. Kurfiss

"Your local culinary tour was a delightful educational taste of SE Asian cooking.  I learned how to select the various ingredients needed in creating the recipes you have taught us.  Not only was it a practical tour to places I can shop but it finished with a sumptuous meal using what we had learned.  Your classes are energized with your signature hospitality." - Beth

"I humbly Thank YOU! I feel there is much more I can learn from you: you have such a great love of the colors, flavors and healing powers of the spices plus a great knowledge of how to combine them. Not only was I carried away by your excitement, but your very "deep knowing" of what you are doing. To observe you doing your alchemy is to begin to see the door-way you open into a whole new perspective of color and sensuality. I always knew that door-way was there, but I've been fumbling around trying to find the door knob! You showed me how to hold my hand to open it just a bit. As a visual artist it's impossible for me to separate one art from another---an "artistic approach" to life includes everything, and this you know very well, from the beauty of your home that you invite us into to your generosity of heart . Being around you is a great joy. - Rachel Gasper, Port Townsend
